Excellence in Dharma Training
How It Started
How It's Going
The Sikkha Project came out of a desire of the International Council to help Centres be places where the Dharma continues to flourish. The project is run by Vajrashura, who is supported in full by Future Dharma funding.
Sikkha works in 3 ways. Firstly it is continually developing courses which Centres can use to teach the Dharma. So far it’s developed five introductory courses; ‘Life with Full Attention’, ‘Radical Dharma’, ‘The Journey and the Guide’, ‘The Buddha’s Noble Eightfold Path’ and ‘Not about being Good’.
These courses have full support notes and videos for teachers. Sikkha also helped develop the Life with Full Attention App alongside the Brixton Buddhist community.
Over the last three years Vajrashura has worked on courses based upon classic Sangharakshita lectures, including ‘Mind – Reactive and Creative’, ‘The Taste of Freedom’ and ‘Breaking through into Buddhahood’. Each of these comes with a beautifully designed companion book.
The second main plank of the Sikkha work is reviewing the Dharma Training Course for Mitras, or ‘Mitra Study’ as it’s usually called. The current course was produced in 2013 and Vajrashura , working closely with the Mitra convenors, is overseeing a review of the course.
Finally as part of its ‘Meditation Kula’, Sikkha is continually exploring new developments in meditation in the Order to try to ensure that any new developments fit smoothly and well with our existing system of practice.
