Future Dharma Team

Meet the Trustees and team of FutureDharma Fund, working together on behalf of the Public Preceptors’ College, European Chairs Assembly, International Council and International Order Office. Most of our team work part-time. This allows us to draw on their breadth of skills and experience whilst keeping our costs as low as possible.

“FutureDharma is a great opportunity to strategically direct our resources. That way we can make the Dharma as widely available as possible and support deepening of its practice for the benefit of beings.”

“Bhante once dropped a coin into a wishing well. He was asked was he wishing for Enlightenment. Apparently he replied ‘No, that’s guaranteed with practice; I’m wishing for money because we need money to spread the Dharma’. Maybe this story is apocryphal but it still expresses something I believe and FutureDharma Fund is our boldest effort to help the Dharma flourish into the future!”

“One of the main responsibilities of the bodhisattva is to create community. I think once you’ve made that connection you want the conditions that support your own practice. The main thing that does that is relationship with other people; practising, you’re in contact with other people whose experience supports your own.”

Trustee (European Chairs Assembly (Movement) representative)

“Throughout my years in Triratna I’ve seen good people struggling and limiting their vision for Dharma projects through lack of money. I believe FutureDharma Fund can change all that. We can all participate in the delight and freedom of sharing resources, whether giving or receiving, knowing more dreams can flourish to help the Dharma change lives.”

“As a response to our international Buddhist community, Future Dharma aims to help it grow and thrive. I particularly like it’s international reach, a little can go a long way in many countries. Access to Dharma talks, funding for Dharma training, translations – the greatest gift we can give is the Dharma.”

“The FutureDharma Fund has the potential to become a bold and ambitious expression of Sangharakshita’s vision of ‘Transforming self, transforming world’. For all of us it is an opportunity to ask how we want to use our resources for the greatest good, and the world certainly needs dynamic and effective expressions and communication of the Dharma, which the Fund aims to enable.”

“We can give no greater gift to a person than the tools to allow them freedom from their conditioning. Donating to and working for FutureDharma Fund enables me personally to give this greatest gift to those who face truly challenging conditions that would otherwise prevent them from practising the Dharma. It also comforts me to know that I am contributing to the continued availability of the resources I use myself, such as FreeBuddhist Audio and the Buddhist Centre Online. Working here is a joy for me.”

One way of looking at the Dharma life is as a network of friendships, it is through these friendships that we mutually deepen our understanding of the Dharma and deepen our lives. FutureDharma supports our Triratna institutions to reach more people, which means creating more opportunity for friendship.  I enjoy the work I do because it helps Mitras in their study groups connect with their inspiration, practice, and friendships and gives them encouragement to pass those opportunities on to others.

“FutureDharma fund is our vehicle for reaching more people around the world, for helping create a greater unity amongst us, and also a greater depth of practice amongst us so that we really have something to offer the world. FutureDharma Fund is our biggest and boldest effort to take what we’ve learned and developed over our first 50 years into the next 50 years.”

“Many years ago some inspiring Triratna pioneers struck out for the home of heavy metal – Birmingham. Thanks to them the Birmingham Buddhist Centre was born and has changed the the lives of myself and thousands of other people. I’m inspired to work for Future Dharma and help bring these possibilities to other people throughout the world. I’m also delighted to be working in a team with other Buddhists – having worked in local government for most of my life I enjoy the different way of working modelled by team based right livelihood.”

“In my work I hear many stories of people throughout the world who are in great hardship, whether socially, financially or emotionally and who desperately want to practice the Dharma but can’t. The FutureDharma Fund is our direct response to that need, providing the means for exciting Trairatna projects to be developed to pass on the Dharma and help these people flourish.”

“FutureDharma is all about sharing what we’ve been given with other people. I love the way that our projects are so diverse and yet are all about sharing the Dharma, deepening our shared practice, and continuing to build Sangharakshita’s dream of a worldwide Buddhist sangha, open to everyone.”

Lokabandhu

Lokabandhu

Bookkeeper

“I take delight in helping the Triratna Order and Community grow and flourish, specifically by helping resources flow from the relatively settled and prosperous majority to the relatively penniless minority of heroic pioneers working to spread the Dharma beyond our established Centres.  Future Dharma is a great channel for this flow of energy.  Bookkeeping is not seen as a glamorous occupation but money is energy and energy is eternal delight (as Blake said) – so I love being part of it!”

What is the FutureDharma Fund?  At a recent Triratna International Council meeting Nandavajra, the Fund’s Director, explains the purpose of FutureDharma. Watch this clip to hear in some detail how it all started, what it does, how it’s developing, and what the future holds.
