Habiendo sufrido desde joven de ansiedad y estrés, tras muchos años años de trabajar de 10 a 12 horas al día en el sector financiero, la vida de Xavier ha sido dura:

“Bebía de 10 a 12 cafés al día para seguir adelante, no hacía ejercicio, comía mal y casi no dormía, pero realmente no era consciente de nada de eso. A la edad de 30 años, una noche mis pulmones se pararon y perdí el conocimiento durante 3 días… Casi 20 años después tuve mi segunda advertencia y esta vez, tras pasar 5 días en cuidados intensivos, luchando contra la muerte, supe que tenía que cambiar mi vida.”

“Entrar en contacto con las enseñanzas de mindfulness a través de un amigo mitra que se entrena para la ordenación, fue un punto de inflexión.”
La visión de una nueva vida se hizo evidente para Xavier cuando comenzó el estudio de Dharma con la Sangha de Barcelona. Una vida que está llevando de acuerdo con nuevos ideales, con autoconciencia y con metta.

Pero sin un centro o grupo alrededor de donde vive, en Valderrobres, seguir avanzando en el camino del Dharma no es fácil para Xavier, ni para tantas personas que, como él, se sienten atrapadas en vidas que les traen sufrimiento.

Having always suffered from anxiety, and stressed after years of working 15 hours a day in finance, Xavier’s life has been tough;

“I drank 10 to 12 coffees a day to keep going, took no exercise, ate badly, and hardly slept, but was not really aware of any of it. At the age of 30 one night my lungs packed up and I lost consciousness for 3 days… Nearly 20 years later I had my second warning and this time, when I spent 5 days in intensive care, fighting death, I knew I had to change my life.”

Coming into contact with mindfulness teachings through a mitra training for ordination was a turning point for Xavier. A vision of a new life became apparent to Xavier as he began with mitra study through the Barcelona Sangha. A life that could be led in accordance with new ideals, with self-awareness and metta.

But with no centre or group around where he lives in Valderrobres, forging a new life in the Dharma is not easy for Xavier. Nor the thousands of people who, like him, feel trapped in lives that brings great suffering.
